Like Father, Like Son
Durbin News
People reading the Hattiesburg paper about "Officer Nored," might have thought it was "deja vu all over again." That's because Officer Deron Nored was following in the footsteps of our own Arthur Nored, who 22 years ago won the honor of Mississippi Outstanding Law Enforcement Award.
Deron Nored, son of Arthur Nored, was honored last month for his outstanding work. With the Hattiesburg police department since 1992, he is presently a standardized field sobriety master instructor for the state of Mississippi. During his time with the force, he has racked-up a number of records. In both 1993 and 1994, he was a member of the Governor's Highway Safety 100, 200, 300, 400 Club. In 1995 he recorded his 516 DUI arrest-the first officer in the state to attain the status. In fact, national records to date, indicate that he is leading the nation in DUI arrests.
Growing up, he didn't have to look far for inspiration. His father, Arthur, was in law enforcement from 1964 until 1988. He served as chief deputy sheriff of Wayne County, Assistant Chief of Police of Waynesboro and Chief of Police of Waynesboro. He was also the first chief in the state of Mississippi to receive a
BS in criminal justice. He was honored for his abilities and achievements by being named Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer in 1974.
Even back in 1974, Arthur had a connection with Marshall Durbin. Our present-day Waynesboro Complex Manager; Larry Gandy, sponsored Arthur Lee for the award.
Marshall Durbin was lucky to have Arthur join us on May 28, 1990, following his career in law enforcement. We know he is proud of his son, Deron. We salute Deron's achievement and we congratulate Arthur for leading the way.
